Terms of Use

Last updated: October 18, 2026.

These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of Call Me Oil at callmeoil.com, including every guide, recipe, review, comparison, image and page on the site. In these Terms, “Call Me Oil,” “we,” “us” and “our” refer to the operator of the site, and “you” refers to anyone who visits or uses it.

Acceptance of these terms

By visiting, reading or otherwise using Call Me Oil, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the site. These Terms work together with our Privacy Policy, which explains how information is handled, and our Disclosure, which explains how the site is funded and how reviews are researched. If one of those pages appears to conflict with these Terms on a privacy or disclosure question, the more specific page controls on that question. If you use the site on behalf of someone else, such as an organization, you confirm that you are allowed to accept these Terms for them. Call Me Oil is written for adults and is not directed to children under 13. If you are under 18, please use the site only with the involvement of a parent or guardian.

What Call Me Oil is and how it is provided

Call Me Oil is a free, informational website about essential oils, carrier oils, dilution, diffuser blends, DIY projects and essential oil brands. It is written for adults in the United States who use essential oils at home. The site does not sell products, does not offer accounts or memberships, and does not provide personal consultations. We may add, change, move or remove guides, features or pages at any time without notice. We do not promise that the site will be available at any particular time, without interruption, or in any particular format. Maintenance, hosting problems, network failures or other issues may make the site or its contact form temporarily or permanently unavailable. Because the site is served through an outside hosting provider, an outage or error at that provider can affect access even when nothing on our side has changed.

Permitted use and prohibited conduct

You may use Call Me Oil for your own personal, non-commercial information and education. You agree not to use the site in any way that breaks the law, harms other people or interferes with the site’s operation. In particular, you agree to the following limits.

  • You will not attempt to gain unauthorized access to the site, its hosting, its source code repository or any related system.
  • You will not introduce malware, overload the site, or run automated scraping, crawling or downloading at a rate or scale that burdens the site or bypasses its protections.
  • You will not attempt to bypass, disable or interfere with Cloudflare Turnstile or any other security or anti-spam measure.
  • You will not use the contact form or the email address to send spam, harassment, threats, unlawful material, or malicious links or attachments.
  • You will not impersonate another person, or misrepresent your connection to a brand or organization, when you contact us.
  • You will not copy the site’s content in bulk to build a competing site, dataset or product, or reproduce content in ways these Terms do not allow.
  • You will not present Call Me Oil content to others as medical, veterinary or professional advice, or alter it in a way that removes or changes its safety warnings.

Ordinary search engine indexing, link previews and accessibility tools that follow normal web conventions are not prohibited by this section.

Intellectual property and permitted reuse

Unless a page says otherwise, the text, recipes as written, layout, design, graphics and images on Call Me Oil are owned by, licensed to or used with permission by the site operator, and they are protected to the extent that copyright and other laws apply to them. Brand names, product names and trademarks mentioned on the site belong to their respective owners, and mentioning them does not imply endorsement by or affiliation with those owners. You are welcome to link to any page on the site. You may quote short passages for commentary, criticism or personal reference, as long as you credit Call Me Oil and link back to the original page. You may print or save a copy of a guide for your own personal use. Please do not republish full articles, substantial portions of articles, or images without our written permission. Please do not remove attribution, copyright notices or safety warnings from anything you share. If you believe that content on Call Me Oil infringes your copyright or other rights, please email hello@callmeoil.com with a description of the work, the page where the material appears, your contact details and the basis for your claim. We will review good-faith notices and may remove or change material where appropriate. We have not designated a registered copyright agent, and receiving a notice by email does not mean we agree that a claim is valid.

Messages you send and the absence of user content features

Call Me Oil has no user accounts, comments, forums, reader reviews, newsletter or other feature that publishes content from visitors. The only ways to send us anything are the contact form and email to hello@callmeoil.com. When you send a question, suggestion, correction or other message, please do not include sensitive health details, information about other people, or anything you would not want an editor to read, unless it is truly necessary for your question. You keep ownership of what you send us. By sending a suggestion, correction or idea, you allow us to use it, without payment or other obligation, to research, correct or improve our guides. We are not obliged to act on any suggestion or to reply to any message. We do not accept articles for publication unless we agree to it in writing. You are responsible for making sure that what you send is lawful and does not infringe anyone else’s rights. How we handle the personal information in your messages is described in our Privacy Policy.

No medical, veterinary or professional advice

Everything on Call Me Oil is general educational information. Nothing on the site is medical, pharmaceutical, nursing, veterinary, legal or other professional advice, and nothing on the site is a diagnosis or a treatment plan. Essential oils do not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent disease, and information on the site must never replace or delay care from a qualified professional. The author name on our articles, Sarah Nakamura, is an editorial persona, and neither the persona nor anyone involved with the site is presented as a doctor, nurse, pharmacist, aromatherapist, veterinarian or other licensed professional. Talk with a doctor, pharmacist or other qualified health professional before using essential oils if you are pregnant, trying to become pregnant or nursing. Get the same professional advice before using oils with babies or young children, or if you have asthma or another breathing condition, epilepsy, a heart condition, allergies or sensitive skin, or if you take any medication. Do not use peppermint or eucalyptus oil on or near the faces of babies and young children. Ask a veterinarian before diffusing or applying essential oils in a home with pets. Be especially cautious with cats, birds and small animals, which can be harmed by oils in the air, on surfaces or on their fur. If you or someone else may have swallowed an essential oil, has oil in the eyes, or is having a serious reaction, call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222 or call 911 right away. If a pet may have been exposed, contact your veterinarian or an animal poison control service immediately. Do not wait for a reply from us in any emergency.

Essential oil safety and your responsibility

Essential oils are highly concentrated plant extracts, and misuse can cause skin irritation, allergic sensitization, chemical burns, phototoxic reactions and poisoning. Some oils, including cold-pressed bergamot and expressed lime, can cause burns or discoloration when skin is exposed to sunlight after application. Swallowing essential oils can be dangerous, and oils such as wintergreen, eucalyptus and camphor are especially hazardous to children. You are responsible for deciding whether and how to use any oil, blend, recipe or product mentioned on the site, and for using it safely. Always read and follow the manufacturer’s label and instructions, which take priority over general guidance on our pages. Dilute oils before applying them to skin, patch test a new oil or blend, keep oils away from the eyes and mucous membranes, and stop using an oil immediately if irritation or another reaction occurs. Carrier oils can cause reactions too, and some, such as sweet almond oil, come from tree nuts, which matters for anyone with a nut allergy. Diffuse oils for limited periods in a ventilated room, and make sure people and animals can leave the room if the scent bothers them. Store oils tightly closed, in child-resistant containers where available, and out of reach of children and pets. Keep the original bottle and label, because Poison Control, a doctor or a veterinarian may need to know exactly what was used. Individual reactions vary, and an oil or dilution that suits one person can harm another.

Recipes and DIY projects

Recipes for diffuser blends, roller blends, sprays, cleaners, candles, soaps, perfumes, bug sprays and similar projects are general guidance, and they are not lab-tested formulations. Drop counts are estimates based on roughly 20 drops per milliliter, and real droppers, oils and temperatures vary, so your actual dilution may differ from the figure on the page. DIY projects can involve heat, open flames, hot wax, glass, alcohol, soapmaking chemicals and flammable oils, which can cause burns, fires, cuts, injuries and damage to property or equipment. Soapmaking with lye can cause serious chemical burns and eye injuries, so follow the supplier’s safety information and use suitable gloves and eye protection. Essential oils and alcohol-based perfumes are flammable, so keep bottles, spills and oil-soaked materials away from flames, stoves and other heat sources. Never leave a candle or other heat source unattended, keep flammable materials away from flames, and work in a well-ventilated area. Keep children and pets away from work areas, hot wax, lye and unfinished products, and store finished products out of their reach. Electric diffusers combine water and electricity, so place them on stable surfaces away from edges, children and pets, and unplug them before cleaning or refilling. Follow the safety instructions for every ingredient, appliance and piece of equipment you use, including diffusers, which have their own manufacturer instructions. Homemade cleaning recipes are not a substitute for registered disinfectants where disinfection matters, and vinegar must never be mixed with bleach. Natural bug repellents do not replace EPA-registered repellents in places where ticks or mosquitoes may spread disease. Results depend on your ingredients, equipment, technique and conditions, and we do not promise that any project will work, look or smell as described. Check any local rules that apply to you, such as building, rental or fire rules about open flames, before starting a project.

Reviews, comparisons and product information

Brand reviews, comparisons and roundups on Call Me Oil are research-based. They draw on manufacturer information, published GC/MS test reports where brands share them, label and sourcing details, and patterns in owner reports. We do not run hands-on laboratory tests or personal product trials, and our reviews should not be read as claims of personal testing. Product formulations, prices, sourcing, labels, certifications and availability change, and a product you buy may differ from the one we describe. Check current details, ingredients, warnings and return terms with the seller or manufacturer before you buy. If you buy from a multi-level marketing company or one of its distributors, that purchase is governed by the company’s and the distributor’s own terms, and we are not a party to it. More detail about our research approach is on the Disclosure page.

Editorial persona and illustrative images

Articles on Call Me Oil are published under the name Sarah Nakamura, which is a fictional editorial persona with a fictional backstory. The persona’s portrait is a generated image. The persona’s described history is not evidence of credentials, employment, shop ownership or hands-on product testing. Images throughout the site are illustrative generated photographs, not photographs of products we have tested, and they may not show exact products, packaging, colors or results. The About page and the Disclosure page explain this further.

Accuracy and corrections

We work to keep guides accurate, clear and current, and we correct errors when we learn about them. We cannot guarantee that every page is complete, current or free of mistakes, including mistakes in dilution math, safety notes, product details or citations. Research on essential oils changes, and a guide may not reflect the newest evidence or the latest version of a product. If you think a page is wrong, especially about a dilution, a phototoxicity warning or pet safety, please tell us through the Contact page and include a source if you have one. When information on the site conflicts with a product label, a qualified professional’s advice or an official safety source, follow the label, the professional or the official source.

Disclaimer of warranties

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Call Me Oil and all of its content are provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied or statutory. To the extent permitted by law, this includes any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, non-infringement, accuracy, completeness, and uninterrupted or error-free operation. We do not warrant that any oil, recipe, dilution, product or brand discussed on the site is safe or suitable for you, your household or your animals. We do not warrant that the site, its hosting or any linked site is free of viruses or other harmful components. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranties to be excluded, so some of these exclusions may not apply to you. Nothing in these Terms limits any warranty or right that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Limitation of liability

In this section, “the Call Me Oil parties” means the operator and owners of Call Me Oil and the writers, editors and other contributors who help create it, together with their successors. To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the Call Me Oil parties will not be liable for any loss, injury or damage arising from or related to your use of, or inability to use, the site or your reliance on its content. To the extent permitted by law, this includes personal injury, illness, allergic or skin reactions, harm to children or animals, fire, property damage, damaged equipment, lost data, lost profits, and indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages. This limitation applies whether a claim is based on contract, tort including negligence, strict liability, statute or any other legal theory, and even if a Call Me Oil party was told that such damage was possible. Writers, editors and other contributors do not personally make any promise or warranty about the content beyond what these Terms state. The Call Me Oil parties are not responsible for products, services, websites or advice provided by manufacturers, sellers, distributors or other third parties. The site is provided free of charge, and these limitations are a fundamental part of the basis on which it is offered. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law. That includes, where the law requires, liability for fraud, for willful misconduct, for gross negligence, for death or personal injury caused by negligence, and under consumer protection laws that cannot be waived. Some jurisdictions, including some United States states, do not allow a party to exempt itself from responsibility for its own fraud, willful injury or violation of law, and in those places these limitations apply only as far as the law allows. These Terms do not set a fixed dollar cap on liability. This section does not claim that no Call Me Oil party can ever be held responsible; it limits liability only to the extent the law permits.

Indemnification

To the extent permitted by applicable law, you agree to defend, indemnify and hold harmless the Call Me Oil parties from third-party claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs and reasonable legal fees that arise from your misuse of the site, your breach of these Terms, your violation of law or of anyone else’s rights, or content you send to us. This obligation does not apply to the extent a claim results from a Call Me Oil party’s own fraud, willful misconduct or other conduct for which the law does not allow indemnity. It also does not apply where consumer protection law prohibits it. We will let you know about any claim for which we seek indemnity when it is reasonably practical to do so.

Third-party websites, products and sellers

Guides may link to research papers, government and poison control resources, manufacturers, retailers and other outside websites. Those sites are run by others, and we do not control or endorse their content, products, prices, privacy practices or terms. A link is provided for convenience and reference, not as a guarantee that the linked site is accurate, safe or available. Any purchase you make from a manufacturer, retailer, distributor or marketplace is a transaction between you and that seller, governed by the seller’s terms, warranties and return policies. Questions about product quality, labeling, shipping, refunds or injuries caused by a product should go to the seller or manufacturer. To the extent permitted by law, the Call Me Oil parties are not responsible for third-party products, services or websites.

Affiliate and commercial relationships

Call Me Oil currently has no affiliate relationships, no advertising, no sponsorships and no free products from brands. Links on the site do not earn a commission, and no brand pays for coverage, placement or ratings. If that changes, the Disclosure page will be updated, and commercial connections will be disclosed where they are relevant.

Privacy

Our Privacy Policy explains what information the site and its service providers handle, including the contact form, Cloudflare Turnstile and the theme preference stored in your browser. By using the site, you acknowledge that information is handled as described there.

Restriction or termination of access

We may block, limit or suspend access to the site, the contact form or the contact email address for any person, network or automated tool that we reasonably believe is violating these Terms, abusing the site, sending spam, or threatening the site’s security or other people. We may do so without notice where that is reasonable, for example to stop an attack or ongoing abuse. We may also discontinue all or part of the site at any time. Sections of these Terms that by their nature should continue, including those on intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnification and severability, continue to apply after your use of the site ends.

Governing law and jurisdiction

The site operator has not selected a governing law or a specific court for disputes about these Terms or the site. Which law applies, and which courts may hear a dispute, will be decided under the rules that apply by law. Nothing in these Terms takes away any right you have under the mandatory laws of the place where you live, including consumer protection laws that cannot be waived by agreement.

Disputes

These Terms do not require arbitration and do not include a class action waiver. If you have a concern about the site, we encourage you to contact us first at hello@callmeoil.com so we can try to understand and resolve it informally. Contacting us first is a request, not a condition, and it does not limit any right you have to seek remedies available under applicable law.

Severability

If a court or other authority with jurisdiction finds any provision of these Terms invalid, illegal or unenforceable, that provision will be enforced to the greatest extent permitted or limited to the minimum extent necessary. The rest of these Terms will remain in full effect.

No waiver

If we do not enforce a provision of these Terms, or delay in doing so, that does not waive our right to enforce it later. A waiver is effective only if it is made in writing and only for the specific situation it describes.

Entire agreement

These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and the Disclosure, are the entire agreement between you and us about your use of Call Me Oil, and they replace any earlier versions. Nothing in these Terms limits rights or protections that applicable law gives you and that cannot be changed by contract. Headings are for convenience only, and words such as “including” mean “including without limitation.”

Assignment

You may not transfer your rights or obligations under these Terms to anyone else without our written consent. The site operator may transfer its rights and obligations under these Terms to a successor, such as a new owner or operator of Call Me Oil, as part of a transfer of the site. Any such transfer does not reduce rights you have under applicable law.

Events outside our reasonable control

To the extent permitted by law, the Call Me Oil parties are not responsible for any delay, failure or interruption caused by events outside their reasonable control. Examples include outages or errors at hosting, network, DNS or email providers, power or internet failures, cyberattacks, natural disasters, public health emergencies, government actions and labor disputes. Such events can also delay or prevent delivery of messages sent through the contact form or to hello@callmeoil.com.

Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms from time to time, for example when the site adds or removes a feature, changes providers or begins a commercial relationship. When we do, we will post the updated Terms on this page and change the “Last updated” date at the top. The site has no accounts or mailing list, so we do not send individual notice of changes, and we encourage you to check this page periodically. Changes apply from the date they are posted unless a later date is stated, and where the law requires, they will not apply to claims that arose before the change. If you keep using the site after an update, you accept the updated Terms.

Contact

Questions about these Terms can be sent to hello@callmeoil.com or through the contact form on the Contact page. Messages to that address and from the contact form are set up to reach the site operator’s private inbox through Cloudflare, but end-to-end delivery has not yet been confirmed by a test. We cannot guarantee that every message will arrive or receive a reply, and we do not promise a response time. For any emergency involving essential oils, call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222, call 911 or contact your veterinarian instead of writing to us.

Call Me Oil

Call Me Oil publishes educational guides about using essential oils at home. Nothing on this site diagnoses, treats, cures or prevents any disease, so ask a doctor or veterinarian about symptoms.
